Oh, so that's why I felt like I've read this before...

http://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/im_a_fool

Is it normal to release a manga that's already been done by another group?

Just from reading the first page of that translation, yes, I would be comfortable with that.

Comfortable with their translation or comfortable with doing another version?

>> No.17363

>>17362
I find the previous release unsatisfactory and believe this should be redone.

>> No.17364

Um, could we try talking to the group first and maybe ask them if they want to update their release instead?

>> No.17365

>>17364
You're free to do so, though that seems actually more presumptuous to me. I may not agree with a certain translation style/quality, but I'm not going to tell them they have to do it differently.

Is it really a big deal anyway? Us releasing a version of something, for example, probably would not prevent Lililicious from releasing theirs.

>more presumptuous

If they are open to constructive criticism, they should see that in a positive light

>Us releasing a version of something, for example, probably would not prevent Lililicious from releasing theirs

If the scanlator's aware of the released version, they won't release another one, I think.

But if you and the editor really want to release another version (like Riko and Haru), okay. (Kindly delete the last three comments after reading so everything's back to normal.)

Lililicious released versions of http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=13780 and http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=12987 when they had already been done elsewhere. Hoshitori released its own Hayate X Blade 61 after we had done ours. We presently are working on A Lollipop or a Bullet, a previously completed series. In my experience it's fairly common and not at all controversial. They're all unofficial internet translations, so I don't see why one group's actions should necessarily affect any others. To me the only concerns are- has a work been done proper justice, and is it available to read in faithful, accurate English?

I'll clean the thread later, but for now others are free to chime in as this discussion touches on the group's general philosophy towards duplication.

>> No.17383

I don't see an issue with duplication, it's common practice for fansubs and people generally don't get offended over that. The reason groups usually respect the 'claims' of others is to avoid wasting their own time on redundant work, not because there's some inherent exclusive ownership for whoever scanlates something first. We're not actually in competition with other groups, even if some people like to believe otherwise. If a translator and/or editor feel a prior version is sub par and worth their time redoing, that's really all there is to it in my opinion.

>> No.17397

I was the person who did the first version, and I do agree many things needed to be changed/better with both the editing and tl. If it's alright with you guys, can I use gulf's translation to redo it?

If not, that's fine too. I just thought I'd ask.

>>17397
Sure, of course you can use my translation. Is this something you intend to release here or through your own site?

>> No.17400

>>17399
I would post it here since I'm using your TL. It wouldn't make much sense if I just went and released it on my own site tbh lol

I'm quite embarrassed with the previous release, so I really want to make sure I do things right second time around.
